How to color an Octopus using Copic Markers

I’m super excited to share this post with you all today! I’m using my Jillibean Soup Stamps, Dies and Papers. It’s such a fun stamp set to create cards with. So, today we are going to be coloring this cute little Octopus using Copic Markers.

I really love coloring and trying to give a realistic look to images. Even though this little guy has a little happy face the details of the coloring is a little more realistic with the texture I’ve created. If you are looking for some more tips to color realistic scenes check out this post, How to color large realistic scenes using Copic Markers.

So lets get started!

Gather your colors. If you don’t have the exact colors I’m using make sure you replace them with the same amount of coordinating colors. I’ve stamped my image in Memento Black ink and stamped onto Copic Xpress it Blending Card.

We are using B91, B93, B95, B97, B99, E25, Y21, YR23, Y28 for the octopus.

On the remaining white areas of the tentacles color in with B91.

On the opposite side of the yellow on the tentacles add some B95 deepening the blue along the edge. You will also want to come up a little from the tentacles to start filling in some of the body.

Take your B91 and blend out the B95 to create a smoother gradient.

Take your B95 and create half circles to create the texture of the octopi.

Deepen those half circles by using B97.

Take you B91 and make some dots or spots by just pressing the nib into the paper, all over the blue areas of the octopi giving him more texture.
