Coloring Red using Copic Markers Video Tutorial
Hello there my crafty peeps! In my 6 Day Copic Guide E-course I ask a series of questions and I often get a reply about Coloring Red using Copic Markers. Many people say they cannot get a good blend, red often seeps out of the lines and or your images ends up looking flat. So, I have done a video tutorial for My Favorite Things on how to color this red dress. I’m also showing how to color skin, hair and coloring white.
As you can see my image has no black outline. I stamped in my Memento Desert Sand ink so I can have that no line effect. I used my Misti Mini to stamp onto my Copic Xpress it Blending Card.
3 Major Issues Coloring Red Copics
- Not Getting a Good Blend – Since I color from dark to light when I lay down my darkest color it’s in the shadowed areas. I come out a little more with each new lighter color until the area is filled. The trick is to repeat. I go back over my image in the same order and also in the same places — only adding dark to the shadowed areas and coming out a little more with each new lighter color.
- Red Ink Seeping Out of Your Image Lines – When this happens it’s usually because your paper isn’t heavy enough. I use and recommend Copic Xpress it Blending Card. Also another good way to make sure you you don’t seep out of the lines is to outline the image in that color so you create a barrier so the ink will stop at that point.
- Image is Flat and has No Dark to Light Contrast – Avoid going back over the dark colors with the lighter colors. Instead go over the same colors in the same order you laid them down.
Another technique you are going to learn in this video is coloring white with your Copic Markers. The trick to coloring white is to leave a white space. You just want to use your grey Copics to give a hint of a shadow.
You’re also going to be learning Coloring Skin. I have an awesome post All About Skin Tones and Copic Marker Coloring.
Alright, let’s get to the video. Here’s the Copic Colors I’m using : E000, E00, E11, E13, R30 R32, R35, R37, R39, N0, N3, N5, E30, E31, E33, E37
