Coloring Hair with Copic Markers Tutorial and Free Digi Stamp

Hey my Creative Peeps! I have a Coloring Hair with Copic Markers Tutorial and Free Digi Stamp for you! My daughter drew this adorable little girl for a History assignment! I walked in her room and was like.. I need to take a picture so I can make that a digi stamp!!! She looked at me like I was insane! But look how cute she is! I did let my daughter name her.. so meet Caroline. 🙂

I recently put a poll in my FaceBook Group, The Copic Scoop and the majority of you all said you needed more help/tutorials with coloring hair. So I have this free digi for you to download and follow along!

Remember if you don’t have these 4 colors — thats OK! Use whatever 4 coordinating colors you have. You can even use green if you want. The technique is learning how to apply the ink — no matter what the color is.

Step by Step Copic Tutorial

I printed my image about 3 inches tall and lowered the opacity to about 25% so I can get that no line effect. I also printed on Copic Xpress Blending Card. Here’s a list of the Copic’s I used just in case you are curious.

  • Skin – E13, E11, E00, E000, R32, R30
  • Hair – E41, E42, E43, E44
  • Jammies – B12, B00, B000
  • Bear – E30, E31, E33, E0000

Ok, so let’s get started. I always color my skin first and since I knew I was going to make a hair tutorial I just went along and colored her jammies, too. So here’s how she looks before you add any color to her hair.

Notice how I added the hair strands from the top of her head going down and forward and the coloring up one side of the hair strands on the lines that are already there on the bottom of her hair.

Now by flicking out from the E43 and dragging the E42 you’ll be pulling some of the E43 and you’ll get a better blend. Just like when you create pleats.

Then go back and deepen some of the hair color with E44.

Again, drag out the E44 with the E42. This will soften the end of the E44 and blend it into the hair more. Make sure you’re still leaving white space between all those streaks (hair strands). You don’t want to blend out that texture you’ve created.

Finally, one swipe over the entire hair using E41 .

I always go back and touch up a little with my darkest color, so just a little E44 in those shadowed areas and then we are all finished!
