Adding Shadows to Die Cuts using Copic Markers

There are so many awesome die cuts now, sometimes it makes you think how you can incorporate your coloring in when there are no stamps. So, today we are Adding Shadows to Die Cuts using Copic Markers. I’m using 2 different cloud die cuts and this darling Fairy stamp set from Lawn Fawn.

Before we get to the tutorial I just wanted to talk about a few different things in my little scene. First, I’ve stamped my images in Memento Black ink onto my Copic Xpress Blending Card. The blue ombre background of the sky was created with my Copic Markers, too.

These little fairies are so tiny, it’s almost hard to get some coloring detail in them. But– it IS possible to get some type of dimension with just 2 marker colors, as you can see. With such a small image I recommend coloring the lightest color first for example G82 for the green dress, then making a small shadow under her neck using G85 and up the pleats of her dress. Then blend it out with the lighter color G82. For the skin I filled in with E000 and the shadowed under the bangs with E11. I always repeat with a second layer of color, too.

Adding definition to hair that has do lines for direction can be difficult at first. I have a tutorial and free digi you can practice this on, on this post.
