5 Different Background Techniques for Jillibean Soup Shaker Cards

Hello my crafty peeps! Today I have a fun post with 5 different ways to create backgrounds for Jillibean Soup Shaker Cards! Fun, right!? The Shape Shaker Cards from Jillibean Soup has all the hard part done for you, card base is cut and scored, your die is cut and ready for the shaker and the best part you don’t need to mess with the acetate or foam tape.

Background Technique #1 – Patterned Paper w/Faux Stitching

This is probably the most simplest. There are quite a bit of different shapes for these shaker cards and using a square, rectangle or circle pierced die onto patterned paper is such a great way to accent your Jillibean Shaker Cards.

Background Technique #2 – Drippy Watercolor Background

Creating this background is pretty simple and fun. You just choose your watercolors and before you apply the paint to Jillibean Soup’s pre-cut card bases make sure you add some water using your paint brush. You don’t need to apply water to the entire card, just the top where the color will be most. Then one color at a time saturate the top of the card and then pick up the card so your ink drips down.

Once you are finished with your colors, then finish the shaker card.

Background Technique #3 – Distress Oxide Sponging

This is one of my favorites! I love these Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. These seriously spread and blend like butter melting on a hot pan! Just choose your color scheme and give a little flick of water with your finger tips and you have an amazing background. For this card I decided to stamp the butterfly from the Jillibean Soup Garden Harvest Stamp Set in white all over my Distress Oxide Sponging.

Background Technique #4 – Create an abstract Pattern with one stamp

If you just glance at this card it really looks like an abstract looking patterned paper when I actually stamped the same image over and over to create this abstract pattern. I used my Wild Honey Distress Oxide Inks.

Background Technique #5 – Stamp and color your own Patterned Paper

This is probably another one of my favorites. So, before you put your shaker together you will stamp all different coordinating stamps in all directions. Make sure you stamp off your card base, too. This way it looks like the pattern continues. Then color the images in. I used my Copics to color in the images — but since I stamped directly onto the the Jillibean card bases I didn’t get too crazy with my coloring as the ink will bleed outside the stamped image. I also stamped and die cut some of the clouds and attached them to the card using pop dots for some extra dimension.
